I thought modelling was hard work. I should have anticipated that unwrapping would be much worse.
I have done two pieces and I almost gave up a million times, It is extremely laborious, but still, rewarding. I'm very happy with my colorful checkered pride rock and treasure chest.

UPDATE 1: THE TEXTURE PAINTING BEGINS
And I already had problems with it!!! I had this insight and decided I would do a VERY different texture, something really stylized and ornate, because I was too impressed with all the gold and wealth when I visited the castles in Europe and the palaces in London. I was going for an all-golden chest, and I spent a lot of time planning the ornates and applying it to all the faces.
Thing is, always show your ideas before going foward with it. Sometimes It's not what the tutors are looking for, and that was my case. They did want to see a texture just like the brief, with wood and metal. So I had 10 hours of hard work thrown away and had to start it all from scratch. I was really frustrated and this delayed me so much I can't even measure.
So I'm going to post all the steps for the new treasure chest texture, and I'll just leave the incomplete ornate one here because I really want to do a second version of the model using this texture.

Good bye dear friend
I started sketching the main elements for the texture and putting some color value to the wood and metal.

Then going a little foward with the values to create the induced shadows and lights using a mask. After that I started adding colours with the gradient map tool, even though I didn't know how to work properly with It, I had to improvise some things on the way because apparently the gradient map affects every previows layer and not just the one I selected, need to search for some tutorials and learn how to do It properly (not at this project because I really didn't have time to).

I decided to go for a more vibrant gold and wood, and some green to balance the colors a little bit. If I was to give myself some feedback I would say those coins look terrible and I should work more on them. Also maybe try to add some other color to the wood, just not to make it so monochromatic. At the end I was very happy with the final result, even though is definetely not perfect, I was really skeptical that I could actually paint something like this. So yay!
