Diorama: First Ideas

For this Term's final project, we were introduced to the Blizzard Diorama contest! We had mandatory elements on our brief but we were free to choose our own guideline and storyline.

I decided to make something related to a henge of stones, mainly because the UK mythology has a huge influence on me! Actually, I would say that I am very, very interested in the Celtic culture and history, since I first read The Mists of Avalon, I could not get enough of this kind of thing. And It is actually going to be the first time I can apply something like that in a real project! So I'm very excited!

I collected references like crazy, and I must say It was a little hard to find things exactly like what I had in mind, like the colours in particular; I didn't want something entirely green and grey as in most of the pictures, I really wanted to go for something more colorful, vibrant, but also mysterious.

As our brief said, our final Diorama had to look like a World of Warcraft scenario, so I also collected some print screens of rocks and buildings that reminded me of what I wanted. Like the pictures below:

However, I usually see a lot of purple and blue mixed with a lot of green on WoW scenarios, and that particularly bothers me, I don't know why, It's a colour combination I don't like at all. So I'm probably doing something different for this brief. I've done a couple of sketches so far, let's see how It goes.
